Editing a Campaign
Existing campaigns can be edited to update message content and sender settings. The edit wizard uses the same step-by-step structure as the create wizard, but certain fields are disabled to preserve data integrity.
Who Can Edit Campaigns
Users with the Campaigner or Org Admin role can edit campaigns.
When You Can Edit
Only campaigns in a Ready status can be edited. Campaigns that are In Progress, Complete, or in any other state cannot be modified.
How to Edit a Campaign
- Navigate to Outreach and open Campaigns.
- Find the campaign you want to edit and open the action menu (three dots).
- Select Edit.
- The campaign wizard opens in edit mode with the title "Update Campaign".
Edit Wizard Steps
The edit wizard has the same four steps as the create wizard: Overview, Basics, Add Contacts, and Message Template. You can navigate between all steps using the breadcrumb at the top of the wizard and the Previous/Next buttons. The difference is that some fields within certain steps are disabled.
Step 1: Overview
The Overview step is the same as during creation. It displays the Key Concepts cards (Contacts, Campaigns, Messages) as a reference.
Step 2: Basics
The Basics step shows the campaign's existing name, description, and delivery channel. These fields are visible so you can review the campaign's setup, but they are locked and cannot be changed.
| Field | Editable? |
|---|---|
| Campaign name | No |
| Description | No |
| Delivery channel (SMS / Email) | No |
If you need to change the campaign name, description, or delivery channel, create a new campaign instead.
Step 3: Add Contacts
The Add Contacts step shows your existing contact data and column mappings, but you cannot change them. An info banner explains that the original CSV file is no longer accessible, so contacts and mappings are locked. To use different contacts, you need to create a new campaign.
The Map Columns section displays the column names from the original CSV and their assigned import types. The mapping dropdowns are disabled.
This step is useful for reviewing which columns were mapped and what variable names are available for use in your template.
Step 4: Message Template
The Message Template step is fully editable. You have access to the same editor experience and tools as during creation:
For SMS campaigns:
- Message text, variables, and quick insert text can all be edited
- The phone preview updates as you make changes
For Email campaigns:
- The full email editor is available with all four tabs (Editor, Sender, Test Data, Attachments)
- You can edit the email body content using the Design or Code editor
- You can switch between editor types (Design and Code), with the same confirmation and content clearing behaviour as during creation
- You can update sender settings (From Email, Reply-to Email, Subject line)
- You can add, remove, or replace attachments
- You can update test data values and send test emails
- You can import or export templates
What Can Be Changed
| Element | Editable? |
|---|---|
| Template content (email body or SMS text) | Yes |
| Variables and quick insert text | Yes |
| Sender settings: From, Reply-to, Subject (Email only) | Yes |
| Attachments (Email only) | Yes |
| Test data values (Email only) | Yes |
| Editor type (Design / Code) | Yes (clears body content) |
| Campaign name and description | No |
| Delivery channel | No |
| Contacts / CSV file | No |
| Column mappings | No |
Finishing an Edit
When you are done making changes, click Finish on the Message Template step.
- The same validation checks apply as during creation. For email campaigns, the From Email, Reply-to Email, and unsubscribe link are required.
- If all required checks pass, the campaign is updated and returns to the Ready status.
- The campaign can then be run as normal.
